This is Kurdistan

This is Kurdistan, a film with a unique personal perspective, explores the Iraqi Kurdistan, its people, their indomitable resilience, sufferings, unbreakable hopes for the future, their current struggle with ISIS and the refugee crisis. In spring 2013, two young Britons, Jasper and Tom, set out on a walk along the famous Hamilton Road which runs 180 km from Erbil, the Kurdish capital, to the Iranian border at Haji Omaran. Their experience was so overwhelmingly positive that they decided to return to live and work in Kurdistan later in the year.

Earlier this year both Jasper and Tom travelled back along the Hamilton Road and across the Region - this time by motorcycle - to make a film about what Kurdistan means to them and how it is reacting to the extraordinary challenges it faces. They saw friends from their walk and learnt how life has changed in two turbulent years; they met Syrian friends still languishing in refugee camps; they listened to the tragic stories of Yezidi IDPs; they spoke to the heroes devoting themselves to helping those who have lost everything; they asked Peshmerga soldiers at the frontline what it's like to fight ISIS on the ground; they searched for the truth on pertinent issues such as religious freedom and gender equality in Kurdistan; they gauged how close people feel to seeing their dreams of independence fulfilled; and they enjoyed the incomparable hospitality of the Kurds and the kindness that no foreigner who comes to the Region can ever forget.
