Exodus revolves around a dispute surrounding public performance of the play, Neo-Monachaomachia, in the main square of Krakowa. Performed just 3 weeks before the Polish general election, the play became highly politicized. It was seen as an affront to Catholics religion, life and beliefs, resulting in unforeseeable consequences. The film brings to light a discussion in Poland and across the globe: do we have the right to freedom of speech even if it causes offence?
