In 1999, a Dutch scientist, Dr Karin Hartman, gave up everything and decided to dedicate her life to study the unknown Risso's dolphins in the Azores. Scars: Politics in the Big Blue is the spectacular outcome of her 18 years' of painstaking study.

With some amazing camera work --- underwater and out --- the film provides answers to many mysteries about marine life that have baffled scientists and the public alike: how males form gangs while females make nurseries; why dolphins engage in synchronized swimming; are they as peaceful as they appear; why male politics is crucial for reproduction and why they are covered in SCARS!

SCARS is a compelling personal story of a life dedicated to studying Risso's dolphins as well as the incredible discoveries that have arisen from it.
