Secrets of the Reef

A male sea turtle is searching the reef for a mate. A female hermit crab is hunting for a new shell. She is outgrowing her current one. A fish is on the prowl for a meal - not easy to catch on a reef.

Their struggle for survival is set against a backdrop of incredible beauty and color in a Pacific reef island. The reef is home to everything from a tiny, but deadly, blue-ringed octopus to the largest fish in the world, the whale shark. But all is not well in paradise. An unseen threat to the reef is closing in on a daily basis.

Emmy Award-winning cinematographer Jonathan Bird had more than 1000 dives over two years to capture this epic underwater battle.
